TÜV SÜD Korea’s VIP Customer Interview Series - #01. Sindoh
“Why our customers choose us?”
A new project was initiated from this simple but critical question.
Starting this year, TÜV SÜD Korea Marketing launched a special project - VIP customer interview. It is to discover how the partnership between our VIPs and TÜV SÜD Korea began and what are the key factors in maintaining strong customer relationship until now. Also, we would like to appreciate the hard work that our committed TÜV SÜD Korea experts and VIPs have made together to create the world a safer and more secure place.
In this project, a VIP means not only a customer who has a long-term relationship with TÜV SÜD Korea but the one who dedicates itself to make a safer and more sustainable world by pursuing quality and safety in their business beyond standards together with TÜV SÜD.
Our first interviewee is Mr. Jae-Young Choi, Manager of H/W department in the R&D Center, Sindoh. Established in 1960, Sindoh is the first manufacturer of copy machines and facsimiles in Korea. The company is aiming to be a world-leading 2D & 3D output solution partner, beyond its milestone in Korea’s copy machine and facsimile industries. Mi-hee and Sun from TÜV SÜD Korea Marketing visited a laboratory located in Guro, Seoul to meet and interview him who stayed there for testing their new 3D printers.
Q. It’s an honor to interview our first VIP in person. Would you please introduce yourself?
I am Jae-Young Choi, working in the hardware department in the R&D Center, Sindoh. I am in charge of product development as well as certification in the center. I review the design and components of our products to ensure their designs and structure are compliant with related safety standards from the initial development stage to mass production. It means that I am involved in every product development process in Sindoh from A to Z. It's been 19 years since I started working at my company.
Q. It’s amazing! What does make you work at a single company for that long time?
I think it was because Sindoh has always been trying to move forward. Sindoh is one of the leading manufacturers in the office automation machine industry in Korea. We are expanding our business from 2D printers to the 3D field in Korea as well as to the overseas market.
Also, this also applies to my career. I was involved in many different fields within Sindoh such as SMPS development and safety & EMC certification. With this experience, I could widen as well as deepen my knowledge and the point of view on the whole development and production process, which made me happy to work here.

Q. How did the relationship with TÜV SÜD Korea begin?
Around the year 2003, we started working on certification for our copy machines according to IEC 60950-1 standard - a safety standard for information technology equipment. It requires advanced knowledge and experience to apply to copy machines. Thus, it was not easy for us to find out the right partner who had enough experience and expertise to handle it. In 2007, I could get contacted with one of the TÜV SÜD Korea engineers by chance. He always tried to address our urgent requests swiftly, and perfectly managed the whole project. That was impressive. Since then, I could trust him as well as TÜV SÜD Korea, and I think this is the reason why we can have been maintaining a strong partnership for the last 12 years.
Q. I know you recently attended our seminar about IEC 62368-1: 2018 standard update. How was it?
I was 100% satisfied. The seminar was well prepared and organized by Mr. Kevin Park and Mr. Martin Kim. TÜV SÜD Korea is kind of a latecomer in the field of IEC 62368 standard, but the quality of the seminar was much more than what I expected.
I was impressed even after the seminar. Kevin and Martin kept sharing the updates of the standard and gave precise answers to my questions. The real issues are brought up after training or workshops in the application process. Whenever I ask questions, they listen to us and try to support us in attempting to find solutions together.
Q. What do you think are the strengths of TÜV SÜD Korea?
People. In my case, people whom I work with are the most important in my work. I am always happy to work with Kevin and Martin. They are cooperative and try to share any information that we should be aware. We work as a team. Whenever facing new challenges and difficulties, we share and discuss our ideas openly, and find solutions together. This working process has been going well even when there is disagreement.
Byeong-Chan, a testing engineer in TÜV SÜD Korea’s Laboratory in Guro, is also a big help for us. Thanks to his excellent understanding of standards and experience, the whole testing process has been going well despite the difficulty of our products.
Another strength is TÜV SÜD’s brand power in global markets. Especially, TÜV SÜD's CB reports are well accepted in developing countries.
